A GUIDE TO DECIDING
Air M5 and Pro M6 offer different physical and display choices, not just consecutive chip numbers. Air has two screen sizes in a fanless design; this Pro M6 uses a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display. Choose around your normal working week.
Identify the task, screen space or connections you need, then compare memory, SSD and total cost.

Air M5 offers 13.6 and 15.3-inch displays. The 14.2-inch Pro M6 uses Liquid Retina XDR with ProMotion. For image or video work, consider which display functions contribute to your output and how much room your tool panels require.
For reading and writing, try your normal text scaling and working position. The larger Air can provide more physical screen space without making the Pro display features essential to your particular routine.
M6 has more CPU and GPU cores than the Air’s M5, but the practical effect depends on the application and project. Check software versions, required accessories and memory before planning an editing, development or AI workflow.
The Pro includes HDMI and an SDXC slot alongside three Thunderbolt 4 ports; Air has two Thunderbolt 4 connections. Budget for adapters and moving between workspaces.
